AFRICAN COMMUNITY PUBLISHING & DEVELOPMENT TRUST
ACPD has community publishing facilitators in all provinces, and 50 youth and children’s bookteams, who contribute to research and book production. Books are distributed throughout Zimbabwe, directly through trained facilitators and indirectly through ACPD’s network of more than 80 governmental and non-governmental associates. The books are used most intensively in ACPD’s peace-building programme, where they reach a large and diverse readership across the political divides, in small towns, mining and resettlement areas and over 1500 villages in 91 wards of Bindura, Shamva and Mutoko. The peace-building programme is also gradually being introduced to other districts in Mashonaland Central and East.
In a programme on Good Local Governance and Peace-building with the Association of Rural District Councils of Zimbabwe and Silveira House, ACPD’s methods and materials are being introduced to another 6 rural districts: Guruve, Murehwa, Buhera, Mberengwa, Umguza and Matobo. So ACPD’s methods and materials will between 2013-2015, be used in all wards of 12 districts, or 20% of rural Zimbabwe. During the period of this strategic plan, ACPD also developing 150 interagency provincial facilitators, strengthening district facilitation teams and training 1600 ward level facilitators. ACPD is also planning to expand the number of youth and children’s bookteams as part of an expanded child protection programme. The print runs of ACPD books range from 15,000 to 200,000 copies, with books on average shared by 5 readers. Through co-operation with other media outlets, ACPD is expanding its national, diaspora and international readership.
